The South Coast's best training
in Acting, Singing & Dance for young people
Qualified, Professional & friendly staff training young people in Theatre
We are happy to announce we will be starting some ZOOM classes from this Saturday JUNE 13th.
We have held off offering this provision as I wanted to ascertain exactly how Zoom Group sessions can be effective and beneficial to all our wonderful students. We are working very hard behind the scenes to keep our provision going and have plans for the SECOND we can meet face to face, in the meantime we hope this will keep everyone engaged. The format will be fun: a song, a dance, and some stimulating drama activities - however we will not pretend to be able to offer strict technique virtually in a group class. If this is something you are interested in we have 1:1 classes available in Singing and Drama/LAMDA.
The format is as follows;
The short break in-between each allows for loo/snack/drink breaks!
The price will be £2 per class (per household) or you can do all 3 for £5
If we have enough interest we will divide the classes into age categories.
Payment will be in advance - via BACs to the SCAPA Nat West account;
Acc no; 26175282
Sort code; 54-21-30
Please make payment and email me - I will then send you the zoom link. ITS IMPERATIVE YOU DO THIS IN ADVANCE DUE TO THE ADMIN IN SETTING UP AND SENDING ZOOM LINKS
We will do this week(13th June) as a ONE off payment - then if easier for you we can take a month in advance, or continue to take weekly payments.
As per our ethos, if like us, you are struggling during these unprecedented times, please approach us for our scholarship provision. Above everything we want to ensure our young people are stimulated and engaged - and we will help where we can.
How our ZOOM sessions will work - the students will be muted for periods of the activities (we trialed this successfully last weekend), on occasions I will send out material in advance and finally, please understand Health and Safety will be your responsibility - so appropriate clothing and space for the dance elements will be essential!
Jo and The SCAPA Team
As the former Head of Performing Arts at The College, Jo had the privilege of nurturing the careers of 1000’s of young people - be they budding actors or young people needing a direction.
SCAPA has been developed to encourage and nurture not only the next generation of performer but most importantly, ensure that ALL young people have an opportunity to capture and develop their creative spirit in an environment that recognises their individuality. SCAPA prides itself in being a ‘fun family’ - everything we do aims to increase confidence, self-awareness, skills and communication in a supportive AFFORDABLE way.
Creative arts are slowly disappearing from the curriculum even though it is vital to society and the economy. It is our experience that performing arts can really change the lives of those who partake - in whatever form, and this is why we now dedicate our time to creating experiences for young people- whatever their ability.
Our mission is:
To NURTURE, ENCOURAGE and DEVELOP CONFIDENCE.
To ENJOY and ACHIEVE.
Jo now works with Head of Drama at Queen Elizabeths School Alex Chester, choreographer & actor Carl Christopher, performer Lizzi Briscoe, actor Adam Payne and former Theatre Manager of the Regent Centre, Barrington Theatre (and Jo's husband) Rupert Barrington.
Together they run The Academy.
Affordable, excellent training run exclusively from theatres and dedicated spaces in the area!
Your Career Starts Now
Jo is a professional singer, having toured with (among others) The Chuckle Brothers! She has trained with world class teachers using the Vocal Process technique for voice and singers.
At The Academy we develop dancing and movement skills around Musical Theatre from Carl, Alex and Jo.
All of our teachers have performed on a variety of stages in a variety of forms. All have acted in their time and are fully trained in order to train young people in this worthwhile medium.
